Judge Lau was appointed to Division One of the Washington State Court of Appeals in 2008 and served until 2016. She served as a King County Superior Court Judge from 1995 until 2018. She also served as a King County District Court Judge from 1992-1995. Prior to her judicial career, Judge Lau’s law practice focused on general civil litigation and criminal law.

With decades of judicial service, Judge Lau brings a wealth of trial and appellate experience to mediation, arbitration, appellate, and litigation consultation. As a trial judge, Judge Lau presided over a vast range of civil cases such as business/commercial disputes, trust/estates, medical/legal malpractice, insurance bad faith/coverage, construction defects, tort, real property disputes, contracts, employment, and class actions. 

Judge Lau also served for seven years on the King County Superior Court Asbestos Litigation Panel where she presided over asbestos injury/wrongful death jury trials. She also served as the Panel’s Assistant Chief Asbestos Litigation Judge until her appointment on the appellate court.

As a trial judge, Judge Lau successfully resolved countless cases in settlement conferences. And as a seasoned appellate judge, who authored more than 400 opinions on nearly every area of contemporary civil litigation, she brings both a trial and appellate judge’s perspective to mediation, arbitration, private trials and appellate consultation.
